Practice Side, Neck Block, Tail Block

We set about going to shape our practice side. First, the irons had to be heated which took between 10-15 minutes. In that time, Tony advised us not to waste time waiting and to begin our neck and tail blocks. The blocks are made from mahogany. The neck block first had to be mortised roughly by the specifications given to us before any finer work could be done to it. A small bit of chiseling was then required.
We then put the neck block in a jig and finely routed it.

The tail block wasn't as much work but was still essential to the overall project. The back of the block had to curve at an angle that would shape the base of the sides around it. The sides of the block also had to be angled which required us using the belt sander.
